Ease of Use:  

Print Artist has a well-designed control panel. You can set Print Artist to open a new default project automatically when the program starts.

When you’re viewing clipart, photos and other images, just drag-and-drop directly into your project. And unlike some print software, with Print Artist you can rotate images right from the control panel, resize them or right-click your mouse to edit them.

Feature Set:  

Not only can you create the usual business cards, greeting cards and posters, you can also create fun crafts and activities for kids. You can choose from a number of predesigned activities such as party sets and scrapbooks. You can also choose blank activities, such as paper airplanes, bags, bumper stickers, pinwheels and more.

Unfortunately, Print Artist doesn’t allow you to see a blank project while you’re selecting it; you have to wait until you finish selecting it before you’re able to see what it is.

The photo editor adjusts photo brightness and contrast, adds color corrections and saturation and even adjusts sharpness by simply moving a slider bar. You can also remove red-eye from photos. The photo editor has tools for creating photo effects, cutouts and edges, as well as flipping and rotating the photo. Each tool has helpful hints to guide you along.

When browsing images, Print Artist doesn’t allow you to separate clipart and photos. This can make find a specific image awkward more time-consuming.

Graphic/Image Tools:  

Print Artist has a wide variety of graphic and image tools to help you create professional-looking print projects. Print Artist also allows you to import photos from a digital camera or scanner, a feature that many other similar programs don’t have.

Text Tools:  

Print Artist’s text tools could use a little improvement; not much creativity is allowed with body text. All you can do is change the color of the body text or rotate the text 90, 180 or 270 degrees. However, Print Artist’s title text functions allow a bit more creativity. You can add special effects, adjust the color of every layer and add different shapes to the title text.

Help/Support:  

Print Artist includes intuitive help documentation and a user guide to explain the program further. For convenience, you can check software updates and even schedule automatic updates. Support for the program is available by email and phone.

Print Artist also includes a brief tutorial, but this is just a brief explanation of some program features.

When we submitted a support question through email, we received an answer with an hour. (Sierra Home also sends a response immediately after you send your email, stating that they usually respond with the same day.)

However, the amount of information Sierra Home requests to submit a simple question is exasperating.

Summary:  

Overall, Print Artist is a solid print software program. It’s designed well and has the tools that will allow a new user to create projects quickly, yet the software is powerful enough so those with greater design skills won’t be disappointed.
